Written by Marie Kate A. Ashley Luartes

The International Philippine School  in Riyadh is one of the Filipino international schools which participated in the First Seminar Workshop for Teachers conducted by the SAGER Learning Institute, Inc. under the auspices of the Philippine Embassy in cooperation with ENJAZ Banking Services..  The seminar-workshop with the theme “Teaching for Success” was held from June 25-27, 2008 at the King Faisal School, Diplomatic Quarters, Riyadh. K.S.A.

The IPSR delegation was led by Mr. Cesar S. Morla, Assistant Principal for the Secondary Level together with Mrs. Joy M. Pundoma, Mrs. Rosario E. Makalintal, Mr. Eduardo T. Teja, Mrs. Zenaida Monellon, Mrs. Victoria S. Centeno, Mrs. Edna Infante,  Mrs. Pacita S. Sarael,  Mrs. Angelita Pascua, Miss Ma. Sheila Francia and Mrs. Flordeliza J. Penalosa.

The three-day  certificate course is designed to provide teachers and teacher aide participants with the skills on improving teaching and learning methodologies.  Particular focus was centered on how to employ technology-based teaching aids in enhancing the knowledge and learning of students.  The said course aimed also to discuss various alternative assessments to monitor and evaluate student performances.  Spearheading the  seminar-workshop were no less than the First Lady of the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh, Madam Rosemarie B. Villamor with the Cultural Officer, Attache Rose Malicsi.  With the brilliance and innovativeness of the three resource speakers from the SAGER Learning Institute, Inc. from Manila, Philippines namely: Mrs. Raquel David Ching, Mrs. Neni Sta. Romana Cruz and Mr. Enrique Estalilia, the teacher delegates were brought to a new realm of techniques and methodologies in the field of education.  The participating international schools were: MIS, RIS, SPIS, FGIS, Al Fawaq Int’l. School, Al Taj Int’l. School, Al Danah Int’l. School, Elite Int’l School, PCIS, Philippine School in Dammam, IPSA and the International Philippine School in Riyadh. The seminar ended with all schools presenting  a special number making use of one effective methodology that each group learned best from the workshop. H.E Ambassador Antonio Villamor consistently graced the occasion for three days. Worth noting is constant resence Mr. Raffy Deliarte, ENJAZ key official during the said  occasion. It could be noted that the ENJAZ Banking Services was the prime sponsor of the whole seminar treating the delegates to sumptuous snack and lunch meals.

The teacher delegates were exposed to various situations and experiences where they were made to think critically, brainstorm effectively, analyze creatively, enhance one’s writing ability and build teamwork.  The seminar ended with the awarding of certificates to the delegates handed by H.E. Ambassador Antonio Villamor assisted by the Cultural officer, Attache Rose Malicsi. By: FJP
